Winter term has come to a close, bringing me one step closer to my future. I’ve journeyed from the Byzantine period in Rome to the Baroque era of Northern Europe. I’ve dared to read the impassioned words of the Guerrilla Girls, marveled at Artemisia Gentileschi’s tenacity, and heard Kara Walker’s call for a better future. I analyzed the Carters' Apeshit video, painted an animation cel, and explored excerpts from the Coronation Gospels, Ebbo Gospels, and Utrecht Psalter. I mourned the losses of the Ebola outbreak in 2013-2016, and Operation Ranch Hand in Vietnam. I saw the effects of the 2008 market crash, saw the determination of the Ethiopian people as they fought for better pay in the coffee market, and saw Edith Turner's courageous fight alongside the Inupiat people in the search for Redress.
Spring term brings new life and new challenges—a new schedule filled with unknowns. But at the end of it all, I will reach a major milestone. I’ll walk in my commencement ceremony (though I still have two summer classes to complete), marking the end of my time at my current school.
Excitingly, I officially registered with the Academy of Art University yesterday to pursue my BFA in Visual Development. This fall, I take the next step in my journey.
